Flashback MP3 of the Day

Flashback MP3 of the Day is where we shed some light on an indie gem from the past. Formed by Martin Whitehead (Subway Records) in
1985 in Bristol, England
THE FLATMATES started out playing Ramones covers. They eventually wrote enough original material to put a full set together and landed an opening slot for The Wedding Present (on only their second gig). The band went on to release six seven inch singles, and appeared on a number on compilations between 1986 - 89. They disbanded before recording a proper full length album. Today's song Heaven is Blue originally appeared on the Rough Trade compilation LP Let's Try Another Ideal Guesthouse in 1988.

Tweenet says '87 for LTAIGH. Great stuff on there: TVPs "Miracles Take Longer", Bats "Block of Wood", The Passmore Sisters, Laugh!, the McTells, Close Lobsters -- ah, when indiepop was indiepop. Great track.
