MP3 of the Day

On a Tullycraft tour (a few years back), we had a no indie-pop played in the van rule. When you're playing that music every night with other bands doing the same thing, it gets to be a bit much. To give us a break from the live Ozzy Osbourne album and the Cleline Dion (that I kept putting on to torture my band-mates), Jeff picked up a 16 Greatest Truck Driver Hits cassette at a truck stop. It soon became our favorite tape to play (and sing along with). It was an absolutely amazing compilation. Every song was great! I think some of the people we met on that tour were confused by our 16 Greatest Truck Driver Hits proselytizing. We found ourselves singing these songs to new friends and strangers alike. Today's MP3 Give Me 40 Acres (To Turn This Rig Around) by THE WILLIS BROTHERS is just one of the many great songs on that cassette.

Dad was a 30 year Teamster. I remember being 8 yo and sitting in the cab of my Dad's truck as we sang this song. Dad passed in 1999 and I am always amazed at the things that remind me of him. Today it was on the Tullycraft website.

This past June we toured the southwest and our bass player, a Tullycraft Freak (all of us now own at least one cd by you guys) put on some Depeche Mode. I'm not big on synth new wave, but at 3am crossing New Mexico, the weird blips and bleeps seemed about right.

EBSEN'S BALD Listen for us! The website's down at the moment.

I'm in a band called BUDDY EBSEN'S BALD! We mostly play "Barnaby Jones" inspired songs, but occasionally throw in a "Matt Houston" tune. Our website is down at the moment but it should be back up soon. Check us out!

Did you hear that "Magnum P.I." is being revived? Now THAT young man was a head turner. Ted Turner once shifted his whole body over the edge a sofa and started wheezing into multiple barf bags!

Sean, were you really playing Ozzy Osbourne and the Cleline Dion in the car?

not entirely true. i was once allowed the first 30 seconds of Los Lobos' "Colossal Head". The cassette still plays crisp and clean! it's usually crankin whenever i get the task of changing out the drums of bottle wash soap.

There was a no indie-pop rule in the van and I did play this tape constantly on that tour and subsequently have brought it on most other long drives since. The rule was rather loose as I believe I also played the Muffs' "Blonder and Blonder" album every chance I had as well and what is that but a punkier, garagier indie-pop in a way. Come to think of it, I still play the Muffs all the time. Anyhow, yes, Sean did play the Celine Dion everyonce in a while as it satisfies his lust for dramatic rock. He also loves Meatloaf and that Bonnie Tyler song I can never remember the title of. At least he and I could agree on the anthemic qualities of AC/DC's live version of 'Thunderstruck' But then really who can't agree on AC/DC?

When I brought this into iTunes it said the artist was Dave Dudley, from the album "Strictly Trucking". What gives?

hey frank, rob, whoever--
good to hear from you. i did an acapella version of that
'windshield' song meri suggested
last week at an open mic. it went over pretty well.
the next performer had a zither and took a random theme from the audience (balloons) and made up a fairly philosophical and rhyming song on the spot! i'm thinking of doing "steamrolling" this week, maybe even "adjustment" (did we ever do that live?) the chords are simple - take the c fingering and slide it up to the 10th fret and just descend with G, F, E, D, C, B (B-Aug if ya wanna get fancy) besides being about my wacko friend ian I think the subtext was about 'giving'. i probably should end it all by quoting the kim deal answering machine message. i'll email you privately next time. sorry tullycraft bloggers. later.
