MP3 of the Day "sugar shopin' all through the night?"

Today we have a slightly creepy duet between Greg and Marcia of THE BRADY BUNCH called, Candy. The track was featured on 1973 album, The Kids From The Brady Bunch. I'm sort of surprised this song was ever recorded with lines like: "Come on Sugar drop and give me some" and "I wanna give you all the love I got," considering the Bradys were a family act and and Greg and Marcia were supposed to be brother and sister. Hmm?

Who were the songwriters? Sounds like Kasenatz-Katz or one of the other purveyors of bubblegum.

I think that's Cindy singing "sippin' milk shakes in the hot sun, cum on sugar now give me some"
Which isn't creepy at all...to Jack Endino, I heard he's into that shit.

i hate it because i don't know if i like the watercolor rendering or not. the likenesses are pretty good, seems as though the technique is there, but it kind of stinks of the 'west coast artist' syndrome - the multilayer of facades just doesn't work for me, unlike say The Producers with that pseudo-whatever gay guy and jessica parker-rodericks husband.
eh, i might hate that in a few weeks too.

The song was written by Jan Erik Lindvald and Gene Rogalski, about whom I know nothing at all. Neither has other known songwriting credits as far as I can tell. Just part of the production machine. I think Jackie Mills, an old swing-band drummer, was the producer of record, but I dunno who ran the shop. Al Capps? I notice that they also did a Millennium song written by Curt Boettcher, "I Just Want To Be Your Friend", which is pretty cool.

Ahhh, yes. I was always confused if the lyric was intended to be "C'mon sugardrop [noun] and give me some" (somewhat creepy) or "C'mon sugar, drop [verb] and give me some" (somewhat more creepy).

As long as we're giving props to Candy, I would feel remiss not to also draw attention to their bossa nova gem "We'll Always Be Friends," also on the "It's a Sunshine Day - The Best of the Brady Bunch" CD.

Check it on amazon. (Mysteriously excluded from the iTunes "Man With A Movie Camera [???])" version.
