MP3 of the Day
Today we have a rarity by THE CRABS. Their song Chubbette only appeared on the Yoyo Records compilation, Periscope. Liz and I are leaving town for a few days - there won't be any new MP3 posts until 2007. Have a great New Year's Eve!

After recording the indie-pop equivalent of Smells Like Teen Spirit with Hey, Hey Girl, ROCKETSHIP released the beloved album A Certain Smile, a Certain Sadness in 1996. Fans couldn't stop gushing about the saccharine male/female vocal harmonies washed over in layers of analog synthesizers. The 1999 follow-up, Garden of Delights, described by the band as "experimental ambient space pop," was met with much less enthusiasm, and to this day many fans won't admit this record even exists. For everyone out there who keeps saying: "I wish Dusty Reske had made more than one album!" I'm hear to tell you he did. Actually, ROCKETSHIP put out an album this past year called Here Comes...Rocketship. Today's MP3, No More Tomorrows, is from that album.
Happy Boxing Day! Boxing Day is a continuation of the Christmas holiday in Britain and the British Commonwealth countries (celebrated on December 26th). Today we have a true Brit-pop classic, It's Only Obvious by THE ORCHIDS. This song is from their album, Lyceum.
It's Christmas Eve! Today we have By Golly, They've Dehydrated Christmas! by THE WEE TURTLES.
Today we have iPod Xmas by HELLO SAFERIDE. This song is great! A lot better than Zune Xmas that's for sure!!!
It's December 22nd, the first full day of winter. Today we have Parasols On A Hot Winter Day by THE MAGIC TENNIES.
Today we have My Favorite Christmas (In A Hundred Words Or Less) by OF MONTREAL.
The indie pop holidays continue! Today we have Good Migrations by THE SMITTENS. Happy Hanukkah!
How great is this? Today we have The 500's covering Secret Santa (You Could Be The One) by SIX CENTS AND NATALIE. They just sent this to me yesterday! (This one seemed appropriate for Tullycraft Tuesday). If you're not familiar with the original SIX CENTS AND NATALIE version... here it is: Secret Santa (You Could Be The One)
Starting today we're going to be posting indie pop holiday songs straight through till Christmas. We're kicking it off with Merry Christmas (I Don't Wanna Fight) by HELEN LOVE. Stay tuned for more holiday gems.
The few people that braved the crazy storm in Olympia last night found a delightful show at the Clipper. The evening kicked off with a surprise performance by LOIS - who was amazing! MATH & PHYSICS CLUB (who claimed they hadn't practiced) followed... and they were stellar! Both Corianton Hale and Jenny Jenkins played short, personal sets for COURTNEY - who we were all there to honor (this was her going away show). TULLYCRAFT ended the night with a (mostly) sloppy set of vampire-inspired pop songs. Sleepy Olympia didn't know what had hit them! It was a fun-filled evening! Good luck in Philadelphia Courtney!!!!
Tullycraft with Santa (aka John Roderick from The Long Winters)
Who's ever gonna fill the shoes of the disbanded Push Kings you ask? Well... a three piece from the Push King's home town of Boston are taking a stab at it. They call themselves MITTENS and if you ask me they're pretty darn close. Check out their song, Leeway and you be the judge.
Our good friend Courtney, the indie pop princess, is moving from Olympia to Philadelphia at the end of the month. Tullycraft is taking a break from recording to play a goodbye show (for her) with our pals Math & Physics Club this Saturday, Dec. 16th in Olympia at The Clipper. Warning: we haven't played out in a while so we might be a little rusty. We will be showcasing some new songs from the upcoming album. Doors are at 9PM and the show is only $5.
As a member of seminal Teenbeat band Eggs, Rob Christiansen helped craft nerdy, yet-catchy pop songs. As a producer, he recorded classic indie albums for Wimp Factor 14, Tuscadero, and The Gazetteers. Christiansen also teamed up with indie rock superstars Mark Robinson and Jenny Toomey for the loungey pop band Grenadine. Today we have All You Want to do is Make Me Cry by Christiansen's duo project (with wife Jeannine Durfee), THE SISTERHOOD OF CONVOLUTED THINKERS. This song is from their album, Better Days, Coming Now released on Teenbeat Records in 2003.
CHICKS ON SPEED are an all-girl electropop group who formed in Munich, Germany in 1997. Today we have their cover of the B52's song Gimme Back My Man from their Un-Releases album released in 2000.

Each Tuesday we feature a band or artist covering a Tullycraft song. Today's song Superboy & Supergirl (from our first album Old Traditions, New Standards) is by MY PLACE IN SPACE aka Darren Cloutier. If you're in a band or know a band that covers a Tullycraft song, send it our way and we'll put it on the site!
If Mates Of State weren't so boring and had the adolescent angst of (the mid-90's band) Braid, they might sound like BABY CALENDAR . Today we have Within Cell Walls from this Southern Florida trio's self-released album, Fifteen Year Old Sneakers.
Today we have Mermaid Chorus by RAT CAT HOGAN from their album, Vitamins & Calcium = Health & Happiness.
