MP3 of the Day

Today we have an early version of London Calling by THE CLASH. This was recorded during rehearsals in the summer of 1979, and was cut just weeks before the sessions with Guy Stevens at Wessex. Those sessions would eventually produce the critically acclaimed double album, London Calling. In addition to the lyrics being different, this version certainly lacks the energy of the one that would appear on the album. Being a huge Clash fan, I was excited to hear this song in its early stages. - Also, notice (in the above photo) a young Shane MacGowan of The Pogues, in the front row just below Mick Jones at a 1977 London gig.

I wanted to be the first one to make a crack about the state of his teeth, circa 1977.

Isn't Siouxie in this picture somewhere?
