MP3 of the Day
In my younger days, believe it or not, I was actually a fan of the early PETER GABRIEL albums. I didn't care so much for 'So' and I'm not too familiar with the music he made after that. Although recently, I heard his cover of the Magnetic Fields song Book of Love. It may be a little sappy and the strings are a bit over the top, but I have to admit, I don't totally hate it. It may be the fact that I know he recorded three solid albums ages ago, or it could just be that I like the original song so much. What do you think?

thanks for posting this Sean! I heard it in the trailer for "Shall We Dance" and freaked out when I got home and found out who was singing, but at the time there was no soundtrack or mp3s I could find and I never heard it again til today. I think it shows that really wonderful Merritt compositions can be sung by anyone.
hey guys-- i appreciate peter gabriel covering this--and i do like his music---- but he doesn’t sell it-- something’s off or missing-- i think most of the excitement that i get from this is that peter gabriel covered a magnetic fields song----- but it’s nice enough-- would be a cool addition to a mix tape/cd! the original is one of my favorite songs. thank you for posting it! you should post tullycraft’s cover of the 6ths 'falling out of love with you'!
I like this. Its not bad.
magnetic fields covers pop up in the most unexpected of places...i'm personally not a fan of this one.
did anyone hear "all dressed up in dreams" off the first 6ths album on that american eagle ad like 2 Christmases ago?
I agree those early Peter Gabriel solo records weren't too bad. This is not my favorite cover but it's not the worst either. At least it's not by someone truly terrible like Ani DiFranco.
first time i heard this cover was at a wedding, the bride and groom had picked it their song to dance to while everyone watched. i was just bartending but it took me by surprise in a really good teary-eyed way. in context it works.
i hate it. BUT my Uncle Frank thinks it rocks. He also digs the Normie Rowe version of Que Sera Sera, but is actually quite cool.
Its OK to like some peter gabriel. Really, just relax and be yourself.
