Mason bees rule!

I assume most of you have heard about bees being in trouble. Well, you can help! There's most likely a beneficial pollinator in your area called the mason bee. These non-stinging bees looks like large, blue flies, but they're actually a bee with a really cool reproductive strategy. The female finds holes in wood to lay her eggs. When she finds the right sized hole, she lays an egg, deposits some pollen for the newly hatched bee to eat, and then walls the whole thing off with a thin mud wall. You can help her out by providing mason bee houses in which she can lay her eggs. You can either buy these houses at fancier nurseries or Audubon centers, or you can make your own.

Viva la bee!
