MP3 of the Day
On this day in London in 1972, David Bowie appeared for the first time as Ziggy Stardust. Intended as a parody of larger-than-life rock stars, Ziggy was actually taken seriously by many rock critics and fans, and Bowie-as-Ziggy became a major star. Today we have Rock n' Roll Suicide by DAVID BOWIE and the SPIDERS FROM MARS recorded live on the BBC in 1972.

one of the top 10 best songs ever written? maybe?
Technically, "Anonymous" (hey, is that your real name?..just a little joke there on my part)under my calculations using a scoring system that takes into account; melody, instrumentation, progression, arrangement, lyrical content, lyrical flow, and emotional depth this song scores very closely with "Ruby Tuesday" by The Rolling Stones and "Drive" by the Cars. Both of which fall far short of the top 10 list of songs ever written by any standard.
So the next time you decide to go spouting off about the quality of music think a little and maybe apply my tried and true formula...you won't end up look like such a "Farmer Ted".
Sazzle Roach,
Did you just suggest that “Drive” by The CARS (off their worst album) was a better song than “Rock-n-Roll Suicide”? Are you high? So you think “Drive” with vocals by Benjamin Orr has better lyrical content, lyrical flow, and emotional depth? You’re dumb.
Hello Richard Ramos!!
I said nothing of the sort. What I did allude to was that “Drive” by the Cars scored similarly to “Rock and Roll Suicide” when subjected to my test. If I were to vote with my heart, of course Mr. Orr's lyrics and pouty expression hidden behind, what can only be described as novelty sunglasses, would score well below that of even "Run, Run Away" by Slade. I am certainly not going to dispute your assertion that I am indeed "dumb", as you so eloquently yet succinctly put it. I have been called much worse in my lifetime and "dumb" is one description, especially coming from someone with such obvious expertise in the field of which we have had our heated discussion, that I can hang my humble chapeau on.
I say, "Bravo, Richard, Bra-vo!
Who's gonna tell you when,
It's too late,
Who's gonna tell you things,
Aren't so great.
You cant go on, thinkin',
Nothings' wrong, but bye,
Who's gonna drive you home,
tonight.?
Who's gonna pick you up,
When You fall?
Who's gonna hang it up,
When you call?
Who's gonna pay attention,
To your dreams?
And who's gonna plug their ears,
When you scream?
You can't go on, thinkin'
Nothings wrong, but bye,
(who's gonna drive you)
(who's gonna drive you)
Who's gonna drive you home, tonight?
(who's gonna drive you home)
(bye baby)
(bye baby)
(bye baby)
(bye baby)
Who's gonna hold you down,
When you shake?
Who's gonna come around,
When you break?
You can't go on, thinkin',
Nothin's wrong, but bye,
(Who's gonna drive you)
(who's gonna drive you)
Who's gonna drive you home, tonight?
(who's gonna drive you home)
Oh, you know you can't go on, thinkin',
Nothin's wrong,
(Who's gonna drive you)
(Who's gonna drive you home)
Who's gonna drive you home, tonight?
(bye baby)
(bye baby)
