Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" was released on this day in 1974. The song was a response to,
"Southern Man" written by
Neil Young, which was critical of social conditions in the South. Ironically, Lynyrd Skynyrd were not from
Alabama, but rather
Jacksonville, Florida. But I guess
"Sweet home Jacksonville, Florida" didn't have the same ring to it. We're not posting this Skynyrd Alabama anthem, instead we have
THE BANGS covering the 1977
Cheap Trick classic
Southern Girls. Happy Friday!
