I Love Lucy debuted on this day in 1951. The show starred comedian Lucille Ball and her real-life husband, Desi Arnaz. The series became one of the most popular TV situation comedies in history. It was the most-watched show in the United States in four of its six seasons, and was the first to end its run at the top of the ratings (only to be matched by The Andy Griffith Show and Seinfeld).
