Norwegian Roald Amundsen became the first explorer to reach the South Pole on this day in 1911 beating his British rival, Robert Falcon Scott. After his historic Antarctic journey, he later made attempts to become the first explorer to fly over the North Pole. In 1925, in an airplane, he flew within 150 miles of the goal. In 1926, he passed over the North Pole in a dirigible just three days after American explorer Richard E. Byrd had apparently done so in an aircraft. In 1996, a diary that Byrd had kept on the flight was found that seemed to suggest that the he had turned back 150 miles short of its goal because of an oil leak, making Amundsen's dirigible expedition the first flight over the North Pole. Today we have a new song called: Too Drunk To Dream by THE MAGNETIC FIELDS from their soon to be released album Distortion.

This is the 2nd new Magnetic Fields song ive heard and they seem to have moved in a new direction. Does anyone else hear it?
I haven't heard the other new Magnetic Fields song, but this one doesn't feel like a radical departure -- except in the sense that it's not disappointing like the songs generally were on i.
If anything, it feels like a return to 69-Love-Songs form. I love it. Kudos to Mr. Tollefson for giving us the gift of this MP3. Christmas came early! I've been listening to it all afternoon.
It has me excited to see the Magnetic Fields live in NYC. I'm very proud of myself because I managed to get tickets for one of the shows...they sold out so fast!

I was walking down to the unemployment line today to get my check in time for the weekend. As I turned the corner about a half a block away I see this homeless dude passed out with his pants down around his ankles. He was surrounded by six or seven empty 20 oz cans of Colt 45. I think but am not sure but do believe that he did drink them all. I also concluded he must have had to pee real bad and took his pants down only to find out he was going to pass out. I thought to myself at the moment that he is in total bliss. Now think about it. Dude is so wasted that he is passed out. That is pretty good until you wake up, and he doesn’t have to worry about peeing is pants cause they are around his ankles. Tonight when I start parting I am going to get naked then all I have to do is pass out and I won’t pee my pants anymore. Genius!
Oh and I love love love baby back ribs!
