MP3 of the Day

On this day in 1977, Sex Pistols' manager Malcolm McLaren sent a telegram to the music papers in London to report that bassist Glen Matlock had been ousted from the band. One of the more intriguing reasons was, ... “He went on too long about Paul McCartney.” His replacement would be Sid Vicious, a one-time member of Siouxsie & the Banshees and a long time friend of Johnny's. Matlock disagreed with McLaren's telegram. He told the AVfE's Tony Parsons, “It was mutual agreement. I wanted to leave and they wanted me out. In the beginning it was just mates playing rock and roll and then later all the business side came in and spoiled it.” Today we have the song Ballad Of The Band by FELT.

Where you been? ain't you for weeks
You been hanging out with all those jesus freaks
Oh yeah and I feel like giving in
And where were you, when I wanted to work? you were still in bed
You're a total jerk

There's a place for abstract and there's a place for noise and there's a place for every kind of sound so come on now and tell me why there's a void
It's all my fault, yes I'm to blame
Ain't got no money, ain't got no fame
And that's why, I feel like giving in
And all those songs, like crystal ball, dismantled king
You know I love them all
But oh, I still feel like giving in.

"Having spent the last ten years in the filthiest business in the universe it's a pleasure to announce the end of the Stone Roses. May God bless all who gave us their love and supported us throughout this time, special thanks to the people of Manchester who sent us on our way. Peace be upon you." -Ian Brown, Manchester, 29 October 1996
