Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier of Monaco on this day in 1956. While filming the Alfred Hitchcock movie, To Catch a Thief (1955), in the French Riviera, she met Prince Rainier. It wasn't love at first sight for Kelly, but the prince initiated a correspondence, which led to their marriage in 1956. She became Princess Grace of Monaco and retired from acting. Grace Kelly died tragically at the age of 52 when her car plunged off a mountain road in September 1982. It was the same stretch of highway that had been featured in her 1955 movie To Catch a Thief.
