MP3 of the Day

On this day in 1969, the circulation of high-denomination bills was officially discontinued by the Federal Reserve. This included the $500, $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000 bills. They are still technically legal tender in the United States, but most of these bills are effectively gone. There are only about 200 $5,000 and 300 $10,000 bills known to still be in existence. The decision to discontinue the bills was an executive order by President Richard Nixon in an effort to combat organized crime. Today we have the song Hard Earned Money by FISHBOY. If you caught Fishboy at the Sunset on Saturday, then you are lucky. They were great!

I know something about this. A $500 bill may be worth as much as $1750, depending on its condition. If it is torn, soiled or otherwise damaged, the value would be less. But in almost all cases, it will be worth more than the face value of $500.

apparently the the largest currency denomination ever printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing was the $100,000! Check it out...

I've heard it's illegal to burn money unlike those combustible t-shirts you sell which apparently will light up in a warm breeze. Is this true?
