On this day in 1945, a
B-25 Bomber, with two pilots and one passenger aboard, crashed into the
Empire State Building, killing 14 people. The freak accident was blamed on heavy fog. An 18 x 20 foot hole was left in the side of the building, but its structural integrity was not affected. Today we have the song
How We Know by
THE THERMALS performed
live at the
Echoplex in Los Angeles.

"I remember getting a call from the fire department commander, telling me that they were not sure they were gonna be able to contain the fire, and I said, 'We've had such terrible loss of life, maybe the smartest thing to do is pull it.' And they made that decision to pull and then we watched the building collapse."
a 757 weighs 10 times what a B25 weighs, and the 757s were flying 5 times the speed. This roughly translates to an impact of 250 times as severe.
