I was in Alexandria, Virginia & Washington, DC last week, and while I was there I learned that on this day in 1792, the cornerstone of the
White House was laid in our nation’s capital.
George Washington, who had been in office just over a year, asked architect
James Hoban to design the mansion. Washington actually never lived in the White House... it was not completed until 1800.
President John Adams and his wife
Abigail were its first residents, but they lived there less than a year.
Thomas Jefferson, the nation’s third president, moved in in 1801. Today we have the song
I'm So Different by
THE LAMPSHADES.
