Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio were divorced on this day in 1954. On September 14, 1954, the couple had a "yelling battle" in the lobby of New York's Trans-Lux Theater where Monroe was shooting the skirt-blowing scene for The Seven Year Itch. DiMaggio allegedly struck Monroe following the filming of the famous scene. Monroe filed for divorce on grounds of mental cruelty just 274 days after the couple's wedding.
