MP3 of the Day
The folk artist, Howard Finster was born at Valley Head, Alabama on this day in 1916. Finster gained national fame after his collaborative work with R.E.M.. The band filmed the video for the single "Radio Free Europe" in Finster's Paradise Gardens in Summerville, Georgia in 1983. The following year, Michael Stipe and Finster collaborated on a painting for the cover of their second album Reckoning. In 1985, the band recorded the song "Maps and Legends" as an homage to Finster on their third album, Fables of the Reconstruction. Finster (and his art) also appeared in the video for the song "Shiny Happy People." Howard Finster died on October 22, 2001. Today we have an interview with PETER BUCK (from R.E.M.) where he talks about Athens, GA, early R.E.M. recordings, and the "Radio Free Europe" single.

Are REM filthy rich enough to ditch Warner Bros and sign with Kill Rock Stars? I think so.
Didn't Warner Bros. re-signed R.E.M. to a multi-album contract for more than $80 million a few years back?
