MP3 of the Day

Gold Records were originally presented to artists by their own record companies to publicize the achievement of 1,000,000 sales. The very first Gold Record was awarded by RCA Victor to Glenn Miller on this day in 1942, celebrating 1,200,000 sales of "Chattanooga Choo Choo." The song was performed by the Miller orchestra with his singers Gordon Beneke, Paula Kelly and the vocal group, The Modernaires. On December 15, 1944, Glenn Miller, was to fly from the UK to France to play for the soldiers who had recently liberated Paris. His plane departed from Clapham, Bedfordshire and disappeared while flying over the English Channel. No trace of the crew, passengers or plane was ever found. Today we have The Cure song Grinding Halt being covered by THE MUSLIMS.
