On this day in 1969, the
London Drug Squad appeared at the home of
George Harrison his wife
Pattie Boyd with a warrant and a drug-sniffing canine. Harrison was not there at the time, but he returned to find his house turned upside down. He was reported to have told the officers:
"You needn't have turned the whole bloody place upside down. All you had to do was ask me and I would have shown you where I keep everything." Officers found a considerable amount of hashish, and Harrison & Boyd were arrested. A few weeks later, the couple were allowed to plead guilty. Despite the large amount of hash recovered from their home, authorities were satisfied that it was all for their personal use. Ten years later, Pattie Boyd divorced George Harrison and married
Eric Clapton. Today we have the song
Julie's In The Drug Squad by
THE CLASH.
