MP3 of the Day

On this day in 2002, The Ramones (Johnny, Joey, Tommy, Dee Dee, and Marky) were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, and the induction introduction was given by Eddie Vedder. Today we have the song Danny Says from THE RAMONES' fifth album, End of the Century. This 1980 album was produced by Phil Spector and many saw it as a departure from the bands' original punk rock formula.

The Ramones used a few big producers during the 80s. Phil Spector, Graham Gouldman of 10cc (on the excellent Pleasant Dreams album), even Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics.

I generally like the influence of the big pop producers. The Phil Spector album was sort of a mixed bag, though. I think it was the single highest charting album they had though.

Tom Waits covered a couple of songs off End of the Century, including this one. They're pretty weird and worth checking out.
