On this day in 1962, John and Clarence Anglin and Frank Lee Morris attempted to escape from Alcatraz federal prison - a small island located in the middle of San Francisco Bay. The three men were never seen again, and many believe that theirs was the only successful getaway from the famous penitentiary. The "official" report stated that the prisoners drowned in the cold waters of the bay while trying to reach the mainland. Clint Eastwood would later dramatized the event in the 1979 film, Escape From Alcatraz. Today we have Prison Song by THE BESTIES.
