On this day in 1994, the first every
Yoyo A Go Go festival was in full swing. The five day festival took place at the
Capitol Theater in in Olympia, WA
(July 12th - 16th). A ton of amazing bands played including:
The Softies,
Neutral Milk Hotel,
The Halo Benders,
Mecca Normal,
Heavens To Betsy,
The Crabs,
New Bad Things,
Cub,
Unwound,
Versus,
The Spinanes, and
Beck. In addition, the festival would feature the last ever live performance of my first band
Crayon. It would also be the last time ex-
Nirvana members
Krist Novoselic and
Dave Grohl would perform together. They played with
The Stinky Puffs - a band led by seven year old
Simon Fair Timony, the stepson of
Jad Fair. Today we have the song
Apple by
SOME VELVET SIDEWALK from the 1994 Yoyo A Go Go festival.

Didn't Dave Grohl use Jeff's drumset?
That’s true. They had a nice drum set for Dave Grohl set-up on a riser. Crayon was scheduled to take the stage after The Stinky Puffs, so Jeff's drums were set-up (in advance) below the riser. When Dave saw Jeff's beat up kit below the fancy drum set, he asked if he could play those drums instead. Dave Grohl plays the drums hard. We thought he was going to break the snare head for sure.
