On this day in 1971,
The Who released their fifth studio album,
Who's Next on MCA. In 1969,
Pete Townshend had started writing songs inspired by his experiences on the
Tommy tour. These new songs were part of a science fiction rock opera he called
Lifehouse. Townshend adapted an
ARP synthesizer and a quadraphonic PA to create a system capable of generating and combining music themes written from computerized data. He hoped these thematic components would merge to form a "one note" or a "universal chord" that would represent the audience. He called this the "Lifehouse Method." After two years of work, the ambitious
Lifehouse project was finally abandoned, and many of the songs were compiled to create a more traditional rock album titled,
Who's Next. Today we have the song
Who Took The Rebels by
BENJI COSSA. Happy Friday!
