MP3 of the Day
On this day in 1977, Sex Pistols' manager Malcolm McLaren sent a telegram to the music papers in London to report that bassist Glen Matlock had been ousted from the band. One of the more intriguing reasons was, ... “He went on too long about Paul McCartney.” His replacement would be Sid Vicious, a one-time member of Siouxsie & the Banshees and a long time friend of Johnny's. Matlock disagreed with McLaren's telegram. He told the AVfE's Tony Parsons, “It was mutual agreement. I wanted to leave and they wanted me out. In the beginning it was just mates playing rock and roll and then later all the business side came in and spoiled it.” Today we have the song Ballad Of The Band by FELT.

Gibson shipped the first Flying V guitar from their factory in Kalamazoo, MI. on this day in 1958. The design was meant to add a more futuristic aspect to Gibson's image, but the model didn't sell well. After the initial launch in 1958, the line was discontinued in 1959. A renewed interest in the Flying V inspired Gibson to reissue the model in 1967. Its design was updated with a bigger, more stylish pickguard, and the original bridge was ditched in favor of the stopbar tail piece more commonly associated with Gibson guitars. The 1967 model is now the standard for the Flying V. K.K. Downing of Judas Priest is famous for playing a 1967 Flying V. THE DONNAS, being big fans of K.K. Downing & Judas Priest, recorded an irony-free cover of Judas Priest's "Livin' After Midnight" for their Turns 21 album. Today we have The Donnas doing Bitchin'/Don't Wait Up For Me.

Attempts to dig a channel tunnel between Britain and France date back to 1883, and Napoleon drew blueprints for a tunnel in 1802. But it wasn’t until this day in 1986 that France and Britain announced that a tunnel would actually become a reality. Trains, cars and buses would be able to speed through this tunnel in less than half an hour. Construction began in December 1987, and what would be called the "chunnel" was finally completed in 1994. Today we have Driving In Your Car by SODA FOUNTAIN RAG.

Pop superstar Kylie Minogue has some advice for the troubled Britney Spears - because she once suffered a breakdown herself. Kylie says, "I wish someone would write a manual about fame because it's not easy. I always loath to say that because there are a lot more difficulties out there that people deal with every day - but when fame is handed to you, it is unique. It's not to the same extreme, but I can remember having a mini-meltdown myself - and unless you've got good people around to support you, you've got a problem. Who knows what is going on in her life? Britney isn't that young any more. I think she will still come back but it's like she's taken an extended holiday. Whatever help she needs, she should reach out and get it." Today we have the song I Fell In Love On The Way To A Funeral by PLASTIC MASTERY.

On this day in 1991, Pete Rose was voted permanently ineligible from being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Rose is the only living member of the ineligible list. The Hall has since changed this rule, and players on the ineligible list can be considered by the Veterans Committee in the first year after they would have lost their place on the Baseball Writers Association of America's ballot. Under the Hall's rules, players may appear on the ballot for only fifteen years, beginning five years after they retire. Had he not been banned from baseball, Rose's name could have been on the writers' ballot beginning in 1992 and ending in 2006. He would have been eligible for consideration by the Veterans Committee in 2007, but did not appear on the ballot. Today we have the song Razzle Dazzle Rose by CAMERA OBSCURA.

Today we have THE THERMALS playing an acoustic version of their song A Pillar of Salt . Happy Friday!
