MP3 of the Day

Jad and David Fair started the band HALF JAPANESE in their bedroom in Uniontown, Maryland in 1975. Though neither could play a single note on any instrument, they went on to record one of the greatest albums of all time. Today's song, Red Dress, is from that album, Charmed Life, released in 1988 on 50 Skidillion Watts Records. Check out a video of Jad preforming the song here.

MP3 of the Day

On April 15, 1954, Bellingham, Seattle and other Washington communities were in the grip of a strange phenomenon -- tiny holes, pits, and dings had seemingly appeared in the windshields of cars overnight. Initially it was thought to be the work of vandals. When the pitting rate quickly grew, panicked residents suspected everything from cosmic rays to sand-flea eggs to fallout from H-bomb tests. Almost immediately pleas were sent to government officials asking for help in solving what had become known as the Seattle Windshield Pitting Epidemic. Today's song by THE GAZETEERS, is called The Seattle Windshield Pitting Epidemic Of 1954. It appears on their new album Landlocked!.

MP3 of the Day

I just heard part of the KEVIN FEDERLINE record yesterday and I can tell you it is in serious contention to beat out One Stop Carnival - the 1996 Brian Austin Green album. Today's song, America's Most Hated, is from K-fed's upcoming Playing With Fire CD.

MP3 of the Day

In 2001, Sacramento duo John Conley and Verna Brock (both from Holiday Flyer) hooked up with drummer Ross Levine and released an album as CALIFORNIA ORANGES. This terrific 10 song debut (that clocked in at just under 30 minutes) became one of my favorite records of the year. Today's song, Olivia, is from that self titled release on Darla Records .

Video of the Day

Here's a video of TULLYCRAFT playing a new song called, Georgette Plays A Goth, at our most recent show (here in Seattle). The sound quality isn't great, but it's not terrible... or is it? Either way, enjoy!

MP3 of the Day

On a Tullycraft tour (a few years back), we had a no indie-pop played in the van rule. When you're playing that music every night with other bands doing the same thing, it gets to be a bit much. To give us a break from the live Ozzy Osbourne album and the Cleline Dion (that I kept putting on to torture my band-mates), Jeff picked up a 16 Greatest Truck Driver Hits cassette at a truck stop. It soon became our favorite tape to play (and sing along with). It was an absolutely amazing compilation. Every song was great! I think some of the people we met on that tour were confused by our 16 Greatest Truck Driver Hits proselytizing. We found ourselves singing these songs to new friends and strangers alike. Today's MP3 Give Me 40 Acres (To Turn This Rig Around) by THE WILLIS BROTHERS is just one of the many great songs on that cassette.

Jeff Fell's Kitten Korral

Jeff discovered this little guy on one of his recent talent searches in Southeast Asia. A cab driver (who I'm told was an impressive Leo Sayer impressionist) introduced Jeff to a (mostly) drunk temple orchestra, and this little guy belonged to one of it's members.

Remember Boat!?

Man! I was super lucky to play a few songs with them last Saturday night at the Sunset Tavern, and they were sooo awesome. Make sure you check out their Magic Marker debut, we're all spinning it nonstop. Even Chris!!!

Please Pass the Rosé

If you thought we were cool before, wait til you find out that we have BAND PICNICS on the roof of our practice space! That's right. Nothing revs us up for hard-rockin' like a fine bottle of French Rosé.

MP3 of the Day

In 2003, FREE LOAN INVESTMENTS hinted at starting a polka-dotted revolution in Sweden. I really hate to use the word twee, but their two minute bursts of exuberant pop were 'twee' in its purest form. If they hadn't disbanded, who knows the fire their vocal hooks 'n' handclaps would have sparked? Today's song, Kick His Balls Out, is from a live P3 Pop Radio broadcast in Stockholm.

MP3 of the Day

SUN HILL are a Brisbane, Australia based indie pop duo. Nick Coppack and Victoria Hannan formed the band in mid-2003. Today's song, Music For Modern Lovers is an affirmation of the group's love for pop music and a tip of the hat to a few of their influences. Did they just name check The Salteens?
